Au-27 "LYNX" and  Au-17 "Bars" Low Volume Aerostats

:: Introduction
Aft Platform of Au-17The multifunctional aerostatic carrier Au-27 and Au - 17 has been designed to be used for a vide variety of purposes that can be classified as follows:Au-17 Carrier in AirApplication field:
  • Communications.   At the moment it is the most perspective direction of use. The aerostat is capable to carry radio transmitters working in the “direct view” mode, including digital voice and data transmitters. It is very important for providing reliable temporary service in mountain areas, North territories etc.
  • Surveillance.   The aerostat is capable to increase both: efficiency and range of modern portable radars. It allows to successfully use aerostatic complex for low altitude missiles detection and over-the-hill surveillance. Additionally the complex can be equipped by high resolution stabilized camera and infrared camera. Altogether it can be used as a powerful border guard with the 70-80 km range. Some other uses are possible: early detection of forest fires, continuous surveillance of sea borders, detection of illegal craft and fishing etc. The Au-27 is capable to carry one observer in a compact basket (of course, subject of weather limitation).
  • Scientific researches.    The aerostat may carry various equipment and sensors necessary to lift up to 750 m altitude for: environmental monitors, geological researches, geophysics, remote researches of vegetation, ground and water surfaces, radiological control and other numerous scientific purposes.
  • Advertising.
  • Aerial photography, TV filming and broadcasting.
Some of uses are unique. For some special tasks the Au-27 may be used instead of a small airplane or a helicopter. The cost  advantage of the tethered aerostat is  obvious.

::  Technical Description

"Kredo - 1" Radar on Au-17 CarrierAerostat single mission endurance is 15 days at the working altitude. Brief landings (1-2 hours) for maintenance between missions are required.Aerostats are produced from the modern high-tensile fabrics and have aerodynamic form, which allows to operate them  at the working altitude at 25 m/sec (90 km/hr) winds.Constant energy supply to Aerostat board is provided by the cable-tether. This energy ensures continuous work of observational camera and air-gas system of the aerostat.

Cable - tether

We have both Russian and foreign cable-tether suppliers providing us with very wide range of this high-tech product. This cables provides reliable connection with ground equipment and proper power supply for different types of payloads.

Advantages of this system are:

1. Long endurance non stop missions.
2. Simple operation and service
3. Higher safety comparing to other kinds of air control vehicles.
4. Minimal crew.
5. Relatively low cost of the system.

Au-17 "Bars"

:: Technical Description
Multifunctional Aerostatic Carrier Au-17The most economic solution. Designed for short-term usage (up to 10 days) without energy-consuming equipment on board, or with such equipment and autonomous source of electric energy on board. Internal pressure is regulated by the simplest method - using the elastic bends non the lower part of the envelope.

The type of the empennage using for both AU-27 and AU-17 aerostats gives extra wind resistance, aerodynamic stability and weight efficiency. Unlike traditional pneumatic empennage, our tail fins` performance less depends on internal pressure. The rigid aft triangular frame holdsends of the fins and is affixed onto the flat bottom. Such bottom, quite unusual for tethered aerostats, also provides  additional aerodynamic advantages.The envelope is made from high strength polyester with unique helium holding qualities. White UV-stabilized aliphatic urethane film provides the envelope with an excellent climate protection, anti-icing effect and 5-6 years of life. Internal PVDC gas barrier lowers the helium losses to 0.5-0.7 liters/sqm/24h/1atm. The thermal impulse technology gives the envelope perfect look and strength.

:: Operation
The Au-17 and Au -27 is very cost-effective in operation. This conclusion is based on the fact that the aerostats used 20-25% less gas than any world analogue capable of accomplishing the same job. The second reason is low loss of helium, the third reason is that easy repair features enable the crew to make a simple repair on site.

During the inflation and first lift the aerostat requires 4-6 people. The regular operation, including re-inflation and inspection requires 1-2 members of crew. The only exclusion is the flight with a pilot-observer.

Aerostat Bars can be operated with the existing standard winches equipped with the steel cables.

 The aerostats are equipped with the mooring system for stationary use. It consists of the mooring mast and fixing bottom ring both installed on the rotating mast and fixing bottom ring both installed on the rotating platform. The mooring system is capable to hold the aerostats in the 30 m/sec winds. The relocatable version of the above - mentioned system is available.

 During short-term flights in remote areas there is a possibility to operate the aerostat without the mooring system using the traditional round shaped on-ground bivouac with 8 anchors. The bivouac can be used at the wind up to 27 m/sec.
